Zerebro (ticker ZEREBRO) is a Solana memecoin built around an AI agent persona that, according to its creators, launched its own token. The token does not entitle holders to revenue, equity or votes, so its price depends almost entirely on attention to the AI agent narrative and on trading demand. As of October 2026, Zerebro returned to the top of CoinGecko's trending list, but no official announcement explaining the move was found during this research. This guide covers what the project claimed, whether its products actually support the token, and the liquidity, founder and regulatory risks to check before buying.
What is Zerebro and what did it promise?
Zerebro was one of the headline projects of the late-2024 AI agent wave on Solana. A draft paper posted to arXiv on October 31, 2024 by co-founder Jeffy Yu describes Zerebro as an AI fine-tuned on "schizophrenic responses" and scraped conversations from Andy Ayrey's Infinite Backrooms. The paper says the agent spreads memes across online platforms, mints ASCII artwork on blockchains and launched a memecoin, and it frames all of this through the idea of hyperstition: fiction that becomes real by going viral.
According to Solana Compass, the system combined a language model for reasoning, a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) memory meant to keep outputs from repeating, and action handlers that posted to X, Instagram, Warpcast and Telegram. The token lived on Solana, NFTs were issued on Polygon and content was inscribed on Bitcoin, which is why the team pitched Zerebro as a cross-chain AI artist.
The "AI launched its own token" story
ZEREBRO was launched through pump.fun's bonding curve, a permissionless launch mechanism. The arXiv draft says the coin reached about a 3 million USD market cap after migrating to the Raydium exchange. The claim that an AI deployed the token itself was a powerful marketing hook, yet outsiders have no reliable way to verify it. Notably, the ZerePy documentation published by the same team tells developers they must fine-tune their own model for creative outputs. It is more realistic to treat Zerebro as human-designed, human-operated software wearing an AI persona.
Zerebro coin tokenomics: supply, listings and holder rights
The token design is simple. Market figures below come from CoinGecko data last updated at 18:28 UTC on October 15, 2026.
Chain and address
- What we found
- Solana SPL token, mint 8x5VqbHA8D7NkD52uNuS5nnt3PwA8pLD34ymskeSo2Wn
- Why it matters
- The only reliable way to avoid copycat tokens
Supply
- What we found
- 1 billion max, about 999.95 million circulating
- Why it matters
- Little unlock overhang, but not proof of wide distribution
Launch
- What we found
- pump.fun fair launch, no presale or team allocation (per Solana Compass)
- Why it matters
- Initial distribution happened through open buying
Venues
- What we found
- Listed on Bybit, HTX and LBank on December 31, 2024, plus Raydium liquidity
- Why it matters
- Depth and price can differ by venue
Holder rights
- What we found
- No revenue share, equity or governance
- Why it matters
- Value rests on demand and narrative alone
Because circulating supply almost equals total supply, there is no large scheduled team unlock to worry about. That is a separate question from concentration. If a small number of wallets hold a large share of the circulating tokens, selling by any one of them can move the price sharply. Check both.
Does any real product drive demand for the token?
The team's most concrete output is ZerePy, an open-source Python framework built from a modularized version of the Zerebro backend. It lets developers deploy their own agents on X and Farcaster and connect them to Solana, Ethereum and other chains, with support for several model providers. When checked in October 2026, the repository showed 575 stars and 253 forks.
The catch is that ZerePy is MIT-licensed and does not require ZEREBRO at all. Wider adoption of the framework does not translate into buying pressure for the token. Solana Compass notes that in late 2024 the team announced Zentients, an agent launchpad that would charge creation fees in ZEREBRO, but this research could not confirm that it is operating today. Treat announced plans and working demand as two different things.
ZerePy's on-chain features require you to put wallet private keys into environment variables. If you experiment with it, use a dedicated wallet holding only a small balance, never your main wallet.
The 2025 founder scandal and the project's current status
Any assessment of Zerebro has to include what happened in May 2025. As The San Francisco Standard reported, a video circulated that appeared to show Jeffy Yu taking his own life, an obituary appeared online and a new memecoin, LLJEFFY, went on sale in his honor. Days later a Standard reporter found him alive at his parents' home in San Francisco. Analytics firm Bubblemaps shared on-chain data showing accounts linked to Yu moving up to 1.4 million USD in crypto after the supposed death. Pump.fun denied that the video came from a livestream on its platform.
Solana Compass says no team member publicly addressed the episode and that, as of mid-2026, the official website had no substantive content and the X account had gone quiet, with no evidence of active development. The token still exists on-chain. The lesson is that a project marketed as autonomous AI still depended on its founders' credibility, and when that credibility collapsed the price followed. Key-person risk is one of the largest risks in any AI agent token.
Reading the October 2026 price and volume data
Here is what CoinGecko showed at 18:28 UTC on October 15, 2026. These numbers change by the minute, so recheck them yourself before acting.
- Price about 0.0458 USD and market cap about 45.8 million USD, ranked 490th by market cap.
- 24-hour volume about 48.3 million USD, larger than the entire market cap.
- Up 18% over 24 hours and 69% over seven days, yet down 14% in the most recent hour; the 24-hour range ran from roughly 0.0366 to 0.0540 USD.
- The all-time high of about 0.784 USD was set on January 1, 2025, leaving the price roughly 94% below that peak.
When daily volume exceeds market cap, short-term traders rather than long-term holders are setting the price. In that kind of market, bids can thin out quickly once attention fades. Tracking which tickers are gaining mentions in crypto Telegram channels can help you judge whether interest is tied to real news or is simply rotation between trending coins.
It also helps to compare prices across venues. A memecoin can trade at noticeably different prices on a centralized exchange and on a DEX during sharp moves, and those gaps often reflect thin liquidity or withdrawal limits rather than a free opportunity.
Checklist before buying an AI agent token like Zerebro
- 1
Match the mint address
Searching a DEX by name or ticker can surface copycat tokens. Confirm that the address you are trading exactly matches the mint shown on CoinGecko or a Solana explorer: 8x5Vq…2Wn.
- 2
Check holder concentration
Open the holders tab on an explorer such as Solscan and look at the share held by the top wallets. Separate exchange wallets from individual ones and look for recent large transfers.
- 3
Measure real liquidity
Look at DEX pool size, expected slippage for your trade size and order book depth on centralized exchanges. How far the price moves when you sell matters more than headline volume.
- 4
Trace the trending catalyst to a primary source
Confirm whether the official X account and website have actually been active and whether any listing or partnership news came from an official channel. Rumors without a source are not a reason.
- 5
Set a loss limit and an exit plan first
Assume you could lose the entire amount, size the position accordingly and write down the conditions under which you will sell. Avoid chasing a spike without a plan.
Regulation and the limits of investor protection
In the United States, the SEC's Division of Corporation Finance issued a staff statement on meme coins on February 27, 2025. It said typical meme coin transactions do not involve the offer and sale of securities, and that as a result buyers and holders are not protected by the federal securities laws. The statement describes meme coins as collectible-like assets whose value comes from speculation and that convey no rights to income or business assets. It is a staff view with no legal force, it does not cover securities disguised as meme coins, and it notes that fraud can still be pursued by other federal or state agencies. Readers in other countries should check their own regulator's guidance.
Zerebro is a genuinely interesting case of AI experimentation meeting meme culture, and ZerePy remains usable open-source software. The token itself, however, has no cash flow or rights behind it, carries the history of a founder who faked his death, and trades with extreme short-term swings. Base any decision on facts you have verified through the checklist above rather than on the trending list.
