πΊπ¦π·πΊ Zelensky says Russia broke Trump's "energy ceasefire," warns refinery strikes will continue unless Moscow stops
πΈRussian drones and missiles hit six separate Ukrainian energy facilities over the course of the night and morning, hours after Trump announced on Sunday that both sides had agreed to stop striking energy targets, Ukraineβs President Zelenskyy said. The attacks reportedly left 33 people injured across the country.
Targets included:
πΉ A Naftogaz gas plant, where a jet-powered Shahed drone damaged critical equipmentβ¨πΉ A gas station, hit by several drones, according to Zelenskyβ¨πΉ Power facilities, causing blackouts in parts of Kyiv and other cities and cutting water to much of the capitalβ¨πΉ Energy and rail facilities in the Zhytomyr region west of Kyiv
πΈ"It is clear that Putin does not read Truth Social," Zelensky said at the Warsaw Security Forum on Monday, noting that Russian refineries were not burning that night. "If Russia wants us to stop our long-range strikes against its oil refineries and oil exports, then Russia must stop its strikes against our energy system and critical infrastructure. This is only fair."
πΈUkraine has a single refinery, badly damaged by Russia long ago, imports much of its diesel and faces daily power cuts as Russia hits Ukrainian energy production and the energy grid, he said. Meanwhile Ukrainian strikes have caused gasoline shortages in Russia because Ukraineβs targets in Russia are refineries.
πΈThe Kremlin declined to say whether Russia had agreed to the deal, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov saying only that "contacts are ongoing" with the US. He also rejected Zelensky's call for a 60-day truce to allow Ukraine to hold elections, saying Moscow does "not want a ceasefire" and would halt strikes for only one day, election day. Kyiv, he said, wants the time "to regroup, heal their wounds, and continue the war."
