๐ต๐ธ Nearly all of Gaza's population needs tents or shelter assistance before winter, the UN's International Organization for Migration said Friday. It warned that what could be the strongest El Niรฑo on record is expected to bring heavy rain and flooding while Israel continues to restrict aid supplies.
โค About 2 million people in Gaza need shelter help, but only about 17% of winter shelter needs have been met, IOM Director General Amy Pope said.
โค Israel has blocked the entry of about 8,600 emergency shelter kits, made up of wood, tarpaulin and basic materials, by classifying them as "dual-use" items, according to IOM.
โค More than half of Gaza's tents and makeshift shelters need replacing because they are in poor condition.
โค More than 3,600 buildings were classified in August as dangerous and at risk of collapse.
โค About 1.8 million people live in displacement sites, most of them in flood-prone areas, where Gaza's badly damaged drainage systems could worsen flooding.
