πΊπ¦π·πΊ Ukrainian drones struck Lukoil's Ukhta oil refinery in Russia's far-north Komi Republic on Friday morning, setting it on fire, about 1056 miles from Ukraine's border, according to Ukrainian media.
President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the strike, along with Thursday's attack on the Omsk refinery, Russia's largest, and vowed to double down on hitting refineries. Bloomberg calculated that the four Russian refineries hit this week have a combined design capacity of about 720,000 barrels a day, though not all of it will necessarily go offline. The extent of the damage at Ukhta is unclear.
Ukraine's Defense Ministry claimed last weekend that its strikes have disabled 51% of Russia's oil refining capacity, a figure that could not be independently verified. The International Energy Agency says Russian diesel output has fallen about 30%. Russia has banned most fuel exports amid shortages at home, and President Vladimir Putin said last week the strikes have cost Russia about 1% of GDP.
