๐ธ๐ฉ๐ขA drone strike killed 26 women and four children near a displacement camp in Abu Shandi in Sudan's Blue Nile state on Friday, according to a person involved in the burials who spoke to AFP, as well as sources cited by Sudan Tribune. Local authorities blamed the Rapid Support Forces and said dozens more were wounded.
Witnesses said the victims had been working at an informal gold mining site next to the camp, including young girls who refine gold with their families. The governor of Wad al-Mahi locality said the drone was launched from "inside Ethiopia."
Investigations have extensively documented Ethiopia hosting the RSF near the border. In February, Reuters reported that a UAE-funded camp in Ethiopia's Benishangul-Gumuz region was training about 4,300 RSF fighters. In April, Yale's Humanitarian Research Lab published satellite imagery showing an Ethiopian army base in Asosa operating as a logistics hub for RSF operations in Blue Nile.
Also on Friday, a drone strike injured six civilians in El Obeid, North Kordofan, according to military sources cited by Sudan Tribune.
