π₯ π΅πΈ "Time Stopped": What October 7 Means in Gaza
When Eyad Amawi's daughter went back to school this year, she found nothing she recognized. Her teachers and school had changed, upended by three years of destruction, evacuation orders, and displacement. Their faces too had changed, she told her father.
Gaza is starting a new school year "without 22,000 children," Amawi, the NGO coordinator with the Gaza Relief Committee, told Drop Site on the third anniversary of October 7. "That means 22,000 [fewer] school bags."
Children keep asking their parents when this will change and when peace will come, he said. As a father, he often has no answer.
Amawi said October 7 marks the day the world left Gaza to stand "alone, facing the brutality." And now, winter is "knocking our doorsβ for the fourth time under genocide, with still very little aid getting in and Israeli officials continuing to call to expel Palestinians from their land.
Rebuilding Gaza will not just take βcement or tools," he told @sharifkouddous. "We need to rebuild the human."
