🇰🇪 Kenya confirmed its first Ebola case on Tuesday, after a Kenyan national who had lived in the DRC for seven years died in Nairobi, according to Kenyan Health Secretary Aden Duale.

The patient had been ill for about a month before traveling by road from the DRC to Kampala, Uganda, and flying to Nairobi on Saturday. Kenyan President William Ruto said at least eight family members and 21 healthcare workers have been quarantined and ordered an enhanced response. Duale also noted that his ministry had identified 28 contacts with the patient, and that it was tracing 23 passengers and four crew from the patient’s Uganda flight. The DRC outbreak, its 17th, was declared May 15 and has killed more than 4,000 people, with confirmed cases reaching 8,300 across seven provinces. The WHO has warned the epidemic is “far from over” and on track to surpass the 2014-2016 West Africa outbreak, which killed more than 11,000 people.
