Three years into Israel's genocide in Gaza, the newly launched Gaza Genocide Center is building a permanent, verified record of it, starting with testimonies from survivors.

Its first, recorded in Gaza, is from Somaia El-Swerki. On Dec. 2, 2023, when she was 19, an Israeli airstrike destroyed her family's home in Gaza City. She lay trapped beneath the rubble for 21 days. Her mother died beside her on the seventh day. It's the first in a series of survivor accounts. The center is led by historian @JehadAbusalim, who is originally from Deir el-Balah and is a PhD candidate in History and Hebrew and Judaic Studies at New York University.
