🇺🇸 43 House Democrats are backing a bill, the first of its kind, that would sanction foreign individuals and entities driving Israeli settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank and Gaza, potentially including Israeli officials.

The Stop the Settlements Act, led by Reps. Joaquin Castro, Madeleine Dean, Don Beyer, Greg Casar, Sara Jacobs and Veronica Escobar, would impose asset freezes and visa bans on those involved in settlement construction, including in the E1 area, effectively barring them from doing business with Americans. It would also ban imports of goods produced in settlements. U.S. citizens, including American-Israeli settlers, are not included in this bill, and it has little chance of passing the Republican-controlled House or being signed by Trump. But @imeupolicy notes it is the “first bill ever introduced in Congress to sanction the entire system of Israel’s illegal theft of Palestinian land.”
