A commander in the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, Abu Mojtaba al-Yasiri, told Reuters the U.S. withdrawal was a “a historic victory for the Iraqi Islamic resistance groups.” He said, “On September 30, we will celebrate the turning of a black page ⁠in Iraq’s history and the failure of the occupation to impose its will on our country.” Seven of the 18 U.S. service members listed as killed in the region in the U.S. war against Iran this year, were killed in Iraq.
